About Duolingo

Short, game-style language lessons with streaks, plus AI conversation practice on its paid tier.

Duolingo breaks a language into short lessons you can finish in a few minutes, with points, streaks and leagues to keep you coming back. It covers many languages and also has math and music courses in the same app.

The free version includes the core lessons with ads. Paid tiers remove ads and add features, including AI-powered practice such as explanations of your mistakes and simulated conversations, depending on the plan and the language.

Duolingo is good for building a daily habit and learning vocabulary and basic grammar. Most learners find they also need real conversation, listening to native speakers and reading to reach fluency, so it works well as one part of a plan. Check which features each paid tier includes before upgrading.
